Stay Informed: What Kids learn in Fairfax County’s FLE Program

Fairfax County Public Schools teach a curriculum called Family Life Edu
cation (FLE) — also known as sex education — beginning in kindergar
ten. The organization ParentandChild.org has prepared an in-depth re
view of the 2025–26 FLE curriculum, showing what topics are covered at
each grade level.
Many parents may be unaware of when sensitive subjects are intro
duced. For example, lessons on different family structures including fami
lies with two mothers or two fathers appear in kindergarten, while discus
sions of gender identity and sex assigned at birth begin in 5th grade.
