Should St. Veronica build a senior living facility on the church grounds?

In 2022, after listening thoughtfully to many priests and lay faithful, Bishop Burbidge released 23 strategic initiatives for the Faithful of the diocese for the coming years.  One of those initiatives was to examine the interest and the possibility of providing Catholic-based care for seniors.  The forms of that care are varied, and many secular facilities are available today in our diocese.  This idea is different: it proposes to have a senior living facility co-located on the parish grounds with a church and a school, and in so doing, creating a “Catholic Village” where various generations are interacting and strengthening each other.

This idea is a profound undertaking and requires prayer, market research, and a parish community that is willing to support the concept for several generations.  The Diocesan staff is conducting the market research and has identified St. Veronica “on paper” as a promising location.  No decision has been made.  The Diocese would like feedback from the parish as to its interest in this concept.

Survey brief sheets are in the vestibules.  The brief sheet has the survey on it as well as a QR code or hyperlink for those who want to take the survey later online.  If you take the paper survey, you may hand the paper survey to an usher or drop it off at the parish office.

The online and paper survey provides a space to make comments and even concerns with this type of initiative at St. Veronica.

The survey will be open until July 31st.
