Highlights from the Parish Council Meeting on July 18th

July 23, 2019 3:00 pm
  • Father Kleinmann opened the meeting with prayer and welcomed our summer seminarian Joe Townsend and the large turnout of volunteers and parishioners. The new sanctuary lighting will be installed in August; design planning for stained glass windows includes six depicting the holy sacraments.
  • Kevin Zrenda displayed the newly-acquired St. Veronica T-shirts and $210 was donated to the pro-life ministry as a result of the sales. Shirts will be available at events for parishioners to purchase.
  • Saint Mother Teresa Outreach Apostolate’s school supply collection is underway. Gift cards welcome.
  • Louis Perna has been installed as new president for the Legion of Mary.
  • Keven Schneider has been installed as new Grand Knight for the Knights of Columbus
  • The 2019 Vacation Bible School had 77 children enrolled; Jessica Straessle reported a wonderful experience for students and adults.
  • The Knights of Columbus and Parent Teacher Organization will co-sponsor the Oktoberfest on September 22nd. Mark your calendars now!
  • The parish library is closed for the summer and will re-open on September 8th; Book Giveaway scheduled for September 15th.
  • The next Morning of Mercy for Separated or Divorced Catholics will be on August 10th at Blessed Sacrament parish.
  • The Young Mothers group is on summer break, meetings will resume in September.
  • The St. Veronica Spirituality Book Club’s next selection is the Practice of the Presence of God by Brother Lawrence of the Resurrection.
  • Seeking a volunteer opportunity? The parish would like to co-sponsor two blood drives with INOVA (Fall and Spring).  A coordinator will work with INOVA and the parish office – minimal time, maximum results.
  • The parish garden has already yielded 120 pounds of organic vegetables delivered to the St. Lucy Project.
  • The parish has committed support to two St. Lucy Project food drives (one in November, the other a summer food drive in June 2020). Factoid:  St. Veronica is one of the smallest parishes in the diocese, but surpasses many other larger parishes in tons of food contributed.  Seeking a St. Lucy drive coordinator to keep up the good work.
  • The parish will host a Ministry Fair in the parish hall on September 29th after morning Masses. Come learn about the many opportunities to serve St. Veronica Parish and the community.

For more information or details on the above parish activities, please contact the parish office or the individual apostolate and ministry leaders listed in the bulletin.  The next parish council meeting is on October 17th.
