What is the “Illumination of Conscience” as foretold by Saint Faustina?

One of our great modern saints, Saint Faustina, quoted Our Lord as saying that one of the great acts of His Mercy would be an event unlike any other in the history of the world.  All of the people on the earth, saints and sinners, will see themselves as God sees us.  All the horror and consequences of sin will be made clear.  This will be a final Act of Mercy allowing people to repent and make amends before facing His Justice shortly before the last day.
